Most guides talk about solar, batteries and heat pumps as separate subjects. But for eligible households, the Warm Homes Local Grant can fund all three in a single package — the most complete energy transformation currently available to UK homeowners.
See our hub guide on the Warm Homes Plan for the broader scheme.
Can you combine solar, battery and heat pump under the WHP?
Yes. The Warm Homes Local Grant lists solar PV, battery storage and air source heat pumps as eligible measures. A survey may recommend all three if your home benefits from each. Total grant value can reach £30,000 — enough to cover all three measures and insulation upgrades in many properties.
Alliant Energy installs all three measures. We're MCS-certified for each, so we deliver the complete funded package without subcontracting.
Why the combination is more powerful than any single measure
| Measure | What it does | Why it works better with the others |
|---|---|---|
| Solar PV | Generates electricity from sunlight | Charges the battery and powers the heat pump |
| Battery storage | Stores surplus solar electricity | Saves solar surplus for evening heat pump use |
| Air source heat pump | Heats home and hot water electrically | Run on your own solar generation: near-zero heating cost |
A heat pump run entirely on self-generated solar costs next to nothing to operate. A battery ensures the surplus isn't wasted on grid export at low SEG rates. Together, the three measures can reduce a household's grid demand to near zero on a summer day.
What a complete funded package looks like
A typical Alliant Energy Warm Homes Plan installation for a three-bedroom semi in Lancashire might include:
- 8 × DMEGC 465W TOPCon solar panels (3.72kWp) — south-facing roof
- Fox ESS hybrid inverter (3.7kW, 10-year warranty)
- Levelise Hub smart battery management with 5.76kWh battery
- Air source heat pump (8kW, sized to heat loss assessment)
- Heating controls and smart thermostat
- Solid or cavity wall insulation where appropriate
Every element is MCS-certified and covered by manufacturer warranties. All work is funded by the WH:LG — no upfront cost, no repayment.

What if I don't qualify for the grant?
Alliant offers private solar and battery packages starting at £5,999 (6 panels + 5.76kWh battery, 0% VAT). Heat pumps are available separately with the £7,500 Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant — rising to £9,000 for oil/LPG homes from July 2026 — open to any homeowner. Even privately funded, the combination creates a genuinely low-cost, low-carbon home.
